Lecturer of Biology
Department of Biological and Environmental Sciences
Full-time, Lecturer (one-year), Position #F0011
The Department of Biological and Environmental Sciences at Longwood University in Farmville, Virginia invites applications for a non-tenure track Lecturer of Biology (one-year appointment) beginning August 2013. Primary responsibilities include:
• In the fall term, teach upper level majors courses in Herpetology (lecture and lab) and Evolution (lecture only);
• In the spring term, teach 14 – 16 contact hours with course assignments to be determined as per the needs of the Department and the University;
• Collaborate with faculty to prepare courses consistent with requirements for the University’s General Education program and departmental expectations. Incorporate genuine General Education assessment and provide data for departmental reporting and analysis;
• Prepare and grade assignments, keep office hours (minimum of 4 hours per week), and complete other typical duties associated with University teaching; and
• Contribute to the mission of the Department through participation in departmental meetings, service on a departmental committee, interaction with students outside of the classroom, and an overall commitment to being an active member of the faculty.
Minimum requirements: PhD (or ABD) and experience teaching undergraduates preferred. MS with 18+ hours of graduate coursework in biology and prior experience teaching undergraduates considered.
