Virology / Viral Immunology/ Microbial Pathogenesis position at Battelle Charlottesville
The International Technology Assessments Product Line at Battelle’s Charlottesville Operations is seeking a biologist with a Ph.D. (or equivalent) and experience in virology or viral immunology. An interest or specialization in microbial pathogenesis is also desired. The BW Defense Analyst III conducts information acquisition activities and applies the principles, theories and concepts of intelligence analysis and the biomedical sciences to assist and/or lead a team of complementing analysts in developing wiki-based deliverables for a government client. Tasks will include reading and analyzing scientific literature, and writing reports on various technical topics related to chemical and biological defense, dual-use technologies, and medical countermeasures to BW agents. The successful candidate must be familiar with open-source literature-based research and analysis and be comfortable utilizing various search engines and proprietary databases. Experience with MediaWiki technology is a plus. The BW Defense Analyst III must show an interest in learning, experience in teaching, the ability to work well in a team environment, and be comfortable speaking in front of both peers and government clients. The candidate must be a citizen of the United States, and be capable of obtaining and maintaining a U.S. Government security clearance up to TS/SCI. The candidate cannot possess dual citizenship.
This is not a laboratory position. It is located in Charlottesville, VA and is in a professional office environment. All candidates will be required to conduct an onsite research assignment so we can assess online research and writing abilities.
Required Qualifications
- Ph.D. in virology or closely related discipline. The candidate must possess no less than three years laboratory experience in the biological sciences, specifically virology and immunology.
- Broad knowledge of viral pathogenesis with specific mechanisms for at least one class.
- Ability to formulate hypotheses about and convey solutions to highly technical problems.
- Ability to search, understand, and synthesize biomedical and patent literature.
- Laboratory and instructional experience in the biomedical sciences.
- Willingness to work in small groups and lead tasks as necessary.
- Demonstrated technical writing skills, shown by articles published in journals, reports, theses, etc.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance up to the TS/SCI level. Candidates cannot possess dual-citizenship.
Desired Qualifications
- Education and industrial experience in vaccinology and vaccine development in addition to above education requirements
- Postdoctoral experience
- Experience in human genetics or bioinformatics
- Experience and familiarity with MediaWiki software.
- Ability to track project milestones, financials, and deliverables (i.e. PMI certifications)
- DoD sponsored Secret or higher clearance
- Bilingual (Russian, Middle Eastern languages, Korean, or Chinese)
