Job Description: Tenure-track positions at the assistant, associate, or full-professor level with attractive recruitment packages are available in the School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences for outstanding scientists interested in the fields of microbiology or immunology. Candidates at all levels are encouraged to apply and applications from minorities and women are especially encouraged. The ideal junior candidate(s) will have a doctoral degree and at least two years of post-doctoral research experience. They will be expected to establish and maintain an on-site extramurally-funded and productive research program and to contribute to the graduate and professional teaching and administrative responsibilities of the department. Applicants at the associate or full professor level must have an established and currently funded research program. The Department of Microbiology & Immunology is strongly research-oriented, with major programs in bacteriology, immunology, mycology, parasitology, and virology. Most departmental faculty members are also members of the Witebsky Center for Microbial Pathogenesis and Immunology, an interdisciplinary center with its own laboratories in a dedicated research building. Buffalo is home to the Roswell Park Cancer Institute (RPCI) and the Hauptmann-Woodward Medical Research Institute (HWI), which have international reputations in cancer research and structural biology, respectively. The University at Buffalo (UB) has Schools of Medicine, Dental Medicine, Public Health, and Pharmacy, whose faculty collaborate extensively within the University, as well as with faculty at RPCI and HWI. Other institutional resources include the New York State Center of Excellence in Bioinformatics and Life Sciences and the newly constructed Clinical and Translational Research Center on the Buffalo-Niagara Medical Campus. In addition, ¬UB is currently in the process of building a new, state-of-the-art medical school in downtown Buffalo which will connect nearby hospitals and research facilities. The Department of Microbiology & Immunology is scheduled to relocate to this new campus in 2016.
